2016 National Kata Championships

The results are out from the 2016 National Kata Championships and although the athlete numbers were down on the record numbers from the 2015 Nationals Championships, the quality of the performances shined through.

Ernie Wakamatsu and Mike Griffiths continued their form from last year and successfully defended their National Titles in Kime No Kata, and Katame no Kata. Our World Championship representative pairing of Simon Read and Paul Kendrick secured the Katame no Kata silver medal.

Ernie Wakamatsu and Dale Keogh, also defended their Ju no Kata National title in a very closely contested  event. Seasoned competitors Janet Lambert and Jenny Beaton came painstakingly close to taking the gold medal, missing out but just one point to take the Silver Medal.

Mohan Bam and Eddie Yuen retained their National Titles with a very impressive performance in Nage no Kata with Paul Sheehan and Drew Evans taking out the silver medal at their first National Championships.

The Junior Nage no Kata always produces outstanding performances and this year certainly lived up to the reputation. Abigail Paduch and Lavina Wolfe won the Gold medal, with Bernard Tandean and Bianca Tandean won the Silver.

Congratulations to all competitors.
