Calling athletes born between 2010 and 2011!  Judo Australia's annual Futures Camp has become the NextGen camp, and it's your turn to step into the spotlight!

Every year we bring together our Australian Coaching Team to teach our up-and-coming Cadets and future Olympians the all-important 'non-negotiables' for competitive judo in a supportive performance environment.

The AIS campus gives everyone a chance to experience what it takes to be an Olympian and for our Coaching team to uncover our next rising stars as we take the journey toward Brisbane 2032.

The Program

  • Judo training sessions teaching important skills for competitive judo;

  • Fun and games to improve physical abilities, on and off the Judo mat;

  • Education about the elements that contribute towards becoming a successful judo athlete including goal setting, and performing at your best;

  • Education about how to successfully transition from a senior girl/boy to a cadet athlete;

  • Introduction to the Judo Australia High-Performance program and what younger athletes need to know;

  • Hearing from successful athletes who competed on the international stage;

  • Tour of the Australian Institute of Sport.

50 places are available for this camp.

The cost of the camp is $400. This includes all meals at the AIS dining hall, accommodation, training facilities, coaching and event t-shirt.

*Travel costs are additional (see below).

Eligibility

· Must be a financial member of Judo Australia,

· Born in 2010 or 2011,

· Minimum grade of 3rd Kyu (green belt)

Travel Arrangements

Each athlete is responsible for arranging their own travel to Canberra and making their own bookings.

Athletes should arrive in Canberra by 1pm on the 9th of January and can leave after lunch at 3pm on the 12th of January 2025.

Judo Australia will arrange for athletes to be picked up from Canberra Airport or the coach station by an adult staff member or coach.

Who will be coaching at the camp?

Coaches selected from around Australia who are experienced in coaching State and National level athletes.  All coaches have Working with Children checks and are certified to safely look after and coach our athletes.

Does attending the camp mean I will be more likely to be selected to represent Australia in the future?
Not quite!  The aim is for athletes to learn but attendance has no bearing on selection in the future.
