Athlete of the Month December 2018 – Kayhan Ozcicek-Takagi

Judo Australia is very proud of all our athletes who travel far and wide to train and compete. We believe recognising outstanding performances and efforts is very important.

Our final Athlete of the Month for 2018, and the recipient of the $250 gift card, is Kayhan Ozcicek-Takagi. Kayhan was born in Darlinghurst, Sydney, however has spent the majority of his life in Japan. He started judo in Japan and became a member of the Japanese National Team. In 2015 Kayhan won the Asian Championships.

Since representing Australia, Kayhan won the National Championships in June 2018. He started international competition for Australia at the 2018 Osaka Grand Slam and since then, Kayhan has won all but one of his fights by ippon. Earlier this month at the Asian Continental Open in Hong Kong, Kayhan won the gold medal in the under 100 kg category. This is a great sign for the Asia-Pacific Championships next year where Australian athletes will compete for the very first time.

Congratulations Kayhan on your achievements and we wish you continued success for the coming years!
