Ernie Wakamatsu shares World Kata Championships update

The IJF World Kata Championships was held in Lisbon Portugal, along with the IJF World Veteran Championships on October 26th and 27th.


nion as a regional representative to the IJF Kata Commission and Kata Judge. Over 100 pairs of Judoka from 25 countries demonstrated Nage no Kata, Katame no Kata, Kime no Kata, Ju no Kata, and Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, and it was nice to see women well represented at the event.


Japan continued their dominance of Kata by their three teams taking Gold medals in Katame no Kata, Ju no Kata, and Kodokan Goshin Jutsu. In addition to the standard open format, a U23 category in Nage no Kata and Katame no Kata was trialled at the championship.
